WHAT TO EXPECT DURING ASSESSMENT

What is Massage Therapy?

In massage therapy, a massage therapist kneads the soft tissues of your body. The soft tissues include muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and skin. The massage therapist varies the amount of pressure and movement. Massage is part of integrative medicine. Medical centers often offer it with standard treatment. It can be used for a wide range of medical conditions.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Frequently Asked Questions:

What can I do to improve my posture?

As a Massage Therapist, I use my knowledge from movement coaching and postural analysis to aid in my treatments. The body becomes compromised and experiences pain and discomfort through overused postures, positions and movements, so I perform postural assessments to find the imbalances, overused postures and tension patterns. With this information paired with the way the body feels while being treated helps me to determine how I can best aid your unexplainable pain and discomfort and/or, pain and discomfort due to injury or trauma. My goal as a Massage Therapist and Fitness Coach is to open the body to new positions, postures and movements through manual treatment and posture cues, in turn allowing you to enjoy your body and life.

Do I need to take off my clothing to get a massage?

No, you don't have to take off your clothes to get a massage. A lot of modalities for massage therapy require a therapist to have direct contact with the skin and to perform some sort of gliding motion; like the ones, you get with a Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage. However, if you are more comfortable keeping your clothing on we still have different techniques to use such as Ishcimic Pressure. What it comes down to is your comfort.

Does massage have to hurt to be therapeutic?

Pain is your body's way of telling you to STOP YOU’RE DOING DAMAGE! So the short answer is no, a massage doesn't have to hurt to be therapeutic or to be able to release and relieve tension or knot.

What if the massage therapist is pushing too hard or not hard enough? Would I offend the therapist by asking them to change the pressure?

A massage should never hurt. You might experience a “That hurts so good” kind of sensation but a massage should not hurt. That being said, don't be afraid to tell your therapist which way to go on the pressure scale. It will just make our jobs water and give you a better experience and enjoyable massage.
