This therapy includes exercises that can help relieve symptoms like pain, discomfort, and disruptions to your quality of life.
When you begin pelvic floor therapy, your Pelvic Floor Therapist will learn more about your condition by gathering a detailed history of your complaints and symptoms. Your Physiotherapist will check your core muscles to see how strong they are, along with how much core endurance you have. Your PT will also have you try certain activities and positions to check the coordination of your pelvic floor muscles.
Your therapist will describe what the exam will be like and discuss risks, benefits, and expectations. An internal exam is a key element to help assess your symptoms and anatomy. Once we have obtained consent to this exam, the Physiotherapist will exam your internal structure. There is never any pressure, our therapists are here to make sure you are comfortable.
Once you have a better understanding of the reason for your symptoms and treatment options, your physical therapist will work with you to determine a plan of action. Considering the recommendations together, you will agree on the number of follow-up visits that work best for your budget, schedule, and treatment plan. Your therapist may give you a few exercises to implement at home to focus on any imbalances they found during the examination.
